Why belong to CRA? |

I love CRA; it is a very nurturing organization. CRA includes top-notch researchers as well as up and coming professionals. I have many friends who began as just "colleagues at large;" we've become friends due to CRA. The folks at CRA make me think and stretch myself professionally! I get a lot of useful practical as well as research information from CRA; the annual conference is ALWAYS a highlight of my year. CRA is helpful in my academic life as it provides an annual conference and a listserv where I can address my questions. Members are very supportive to other members. CRA is an invaluable resource to me as a reading professional. This organization holds a special place in my heart because of the people, ideas, and scaffolding it provides for me in my continuous growth as an educator. CRA is the organization in my professional life that pushes my thinking. I have made wonderful professional friendships with colleagues who support and encourage my research and writing.
-- Mary Jo Fresch CRA is an organization of critical friends and mentors. I always try to present my in progress research at CRA before I complete it and present it anywhere else. This is because I receive invaluable feedback that helps me improve my design, methodology, analyses, discussion, and implications. CRA provides an environment in which I can receive and give critical feedback and support for professional work from respected colleagues. The thing I love best about CRA is being a "tweener." I am part of a community of nurturing researchers and learners. Then, I get to take what I learn from this community and share it with teachers and future teachers.
CRA has given me the opportunity to share ideas and collaborate with colleagues who have similar research interests in the field of college developmental reading. In addition, CRA has been extremely valuable to me professionally because it has allowed me to grow as a leader within the field of reading and within the organization.

CRA is a wonderful professional organization that is small enough so that you really can meet and interact with leaders in the field on a very relaxed personal level. It is a great organization for mentoring graduate students into the profession. --John A Smith |
