Reading Research and Instruction is an international refereed professional journal that publishes articles dealing with research and instruction in reading education and allied literacy fields. RRI is indexed in the ERIC system and articles are reported in Research in Education. Authors are encouraged to submit articles concerned with instructional practices and/or applied or basic research of special interest to reading/literacy educators. Length of manuscript is not a major consideration, but contributions typically do not exceed 15 to 20 pages of narrative length (excluding figures and references). RRI is indexed in the ERIC system, and articles are reported in Research in Education. Reading Research and Instruction is published quarterly with approximately 1,000-2,000 copies per issue.

Manuscript Format: Manuscripts submitted to RRI must conform to the following minimum standards to be considered for publication:

1) Manuscripts must be typewritten and double- spaced, including quotes and references.

2) Manuscripts must include an abstract of 75-125 words.

3) Manuscripts should be on 8 1/2 x 11 inch, white paper with 1-inch margins on all sides.

4) Two manuscripts should be submitted. One must include a cover sheet, which contains the title, the author(s), institutional affiliation, contact information, and date of submission. The other manuscript must include a cover sheet with the title and no other identifying information.

5) A cover letter should be included with the submission.

Style: The content, organization, and style of manuscripts must conform to standards described in the latest manual of the American Psychological Association, which is the 5th edition (2001).

Submission Procedures: Online submissions are encouraged. Manuscripts should be sent as an attachment to an email message. All manuscript submissions should be sent to:

Review Process: Review of manuscripts will be impartially conducted by the Editorial Advisory Board and the editors. Accepted manuscripts may require revisions for clarity, organization, language, mechanics, and/or style. Only completed manuscripts will be reviewed. Manuscripts must be original works, which have not been published elsewhere in any form or submitted simultaneously to other journal(s) for publication. Submissions during summer months require more time for processing.

Articles submitted to Reading Research and Instruction have a blind review by a team of three external reviewers. The acceptance rate is between 10-15 percent and the review process takes two-three months.

Submissions should follow APA 5th edition guidelines. The authors should send one copy with identifying information and one without any identifying informaion. The articles need to include an abstract.
